About the event
The Elder tree (Sambucus canadensis) grows across Vermont- in wet gulches, marking old farmsteads, gracing the edges of forests, yards and roads. Humans and other animals harvest flowers and berries from the elder tree for medicine & food! Join us in learning how to identify the elder tree, making Elderberry syrup, and giving appreciation for the harvest. Elderberry syrup is helpful at the onset of the flu, or common cold, and has been shown to decrease the duration and symptoms of normal colds and flus. You will learn how to make your own syrup at home, and about the properties and lore of the elder tree. There will be tasting, and enough to bring home a sample. I hope to see you there!
